We have a "No Jewelry" policy here at KF USA, which means "if it can come off please take off," but why is that?
Safety: This should be pretty obvious, but when we are grabbing and striking, we do not want to break a necklace, rip out an earring or scratch someone with rings or fitness trackers, etc.
Philosophy: Separate from the Safety issue, we also have a philosophical reason for leaving jewelry at home. Simply put, martial arts are traditionally an austere practice, with a simple uniform and belt that is the same for everyone. It does not matter what kind of house or car or outside lifestyle you may have, as we all start at White belt and work to improve ourselves and our skills within the martial arts. Flashy jewelry can go against this concept, which prefers our only "accessories" to be the sweat we generate with our efforts - and the belt ranks we earn from those efforts. (Shihan even removes his wedding ring, although we understand many cannot or choose not to.)
But what if I can't take off? We understand some things cannot be removed, including religious items and newly pierced ear studs, etc. We try and work with everyone's situation as we aim for the above, and if safety looks to be compromised from a piece, we may ask you to tape it down or otherwise minimize the risk to you and others during classes.
